I am Dr. Robert McGarvey, a Clinical Psychologist licensed in Texas with Bluefield Psychological Services PLLC. I provide psychotherapy to adults, with a primary interest in treatment focused on areas to include depression, anxiety, trauma related issues, relational challenges, attention deficits, men’s specific issues, infertility, and spiritual integration.
I say I am from the South as I have lived throughout my childhood in many Southern states. I spent the majority of my time growing up in North Texas. From a young age I have had a deep passion and unquenchable curiosity of the human mind and psyche. I completed my Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University in La Mirada, California. Here I was able to truly grasp a better understanding of how wonderfully complex human beings are and get excellent training. I love that despite all that we know in the discipline of Psychology there is still an endless wealth to be known and explored. In addition to mental health, physical exercise in various forms have been another passion and important part of my life. Fortunately, physical movement has been demonstrated to also provide immense improvements in mental health. I enjoy most outdoor sports in nature and exploring what I am physically capable of accomplishing in calisthenics, gymnastics, Pilates, mobility, endurance, and strength training.
Meet your psychologist.
You may wonder about the name Bluefield Psychological Services. During my time at the Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University, many students both studied and lived in a residence on Bluefield Avenue. This home was affectionately known as the Bluefield House.
As I reflect on my professional development, many fond and formative memories are tied to that place. Bluefield was where deep conversations were held, lifelong friendships were formed, and growth—both personal and professional—was nurtured. Many of my peers and colleagues share a meaningful history and affection for Bluefield.
When it came time to name my practice, it felt fitting to honor a place that represents connection, learning, and the foundations of my clinical journey. Furthermore, Bluefield Psychological Services is based out Texas, and the name is also a subtle nod to the bluebonnet fields found throughout Texas country side.
